2009 Conservation Expo
Saturday, May 30, 2009 in Winnebago County (at the Sunnyview Exposition Center, 500 E. County Road Y, Oshkosh).

Expo attendees (target audience is homeowners) will be able to meet with over 30 vendors to discuss, learn, and share experiences regarding rain gardens, native plants (including a native plant sale), vegetative shoreland buffers, yard care including composting; installation of prairies; forestry topics; invasive species; water quality; and conservation clubs, organizations etc.

There will be speakers scheduled throughout the day including:

- Lisa Reas, LJ Reas Environmental, discussing rain garden installation and plant selection;

- Jennifer Baker, Prairie Nursery, on native plants;

- John Hoosier, Marshland Transplant Nursery sharing shoreland restoration project experiences;

- Dan Rudibek, Lake Poygan Sportsmen's Club, on Lake Poygan issues;

In addition, I am trying to have a "build your own rain barrel" session; and I am working to have a Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) representative discuss home energy considerations.

As you know, the Expo can serve as part of your information & education activities with respect to the WDNR MS4 stormwater permit; and specifically:

Section 2.1.3 "Promote beneficial onsite reuse of leaves and grass clippings and proper use of lawn and garden fertilizers and pesticides."

Section 2.1.4 "Promote the management of streambanks and shorelines by riparian landowners to minimize erosion and restore and enhance the ecological value of waterways."

and Section 2.1.5 "Promote infiltration of residential storm water runoff from rooftop downspouts, driveways and sidewalks."

The Expo may also have some info regarding Section 2.1.2.
